Together, we're leading the fight against suicide

Since 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has grown from a grassroots network of researchers and volunteers into a national movement with chapters in all 50 states. AFSP is also the largest private funder of suicide prevention research, and because we've built the infrastructure to deliver evidence-based programs to local communities across the country, our work impacts millions of people. We are consistently ranked one of the best charities for mental health, and we're powered by everyday heroes like you: $5, $20, $100 - every donation helps.

Every donation makes a difference.

Some examples of how every dollar counts:

$10 – Distributes one Depression and Bipolar Awareness educational program (DVD).

$50 - Provides AFSP educational materials to 25 people. If just one person seeks help after reading these materials, a life could be saved for less than the cost of dinner and a movie.

$100 - Covers the cost of bringing It's Real: Teens and Mental Health to a high school.

$250 - Enables AFSP to recruit and train a volunteer field advocate who can then educate Federal, State and local elected officials about suicide prevention.

$500 - Trains a new Survivor of Suicide support group facilitator. Each new group assists newly bereaved survivors and helps them see that they are not alone.

$1,000 - Provides funds for youth suicide prevention research.

$2,500 – When added to $2,500 from 17 other Walkers, funds a year of research into the genetic, biological or behavioral factors that contribute to suicide.

$5,000 –  Places AFSP’s groundbreaking Interactive Screening Program (ISP) at institutions of higher education; medical schools, hospitals and health systems; and employee assistance programs, organizations and workplaces.

83 Cents of every donor dollar directly supports our four focus areas:

Research, Education, Support, and Advocacy.
