Welcome to the Southeast Florida Out of the Darkness Experience
#BeTheVoice of suicide prevention in Southeast Florida
While our Out of the Darkness Walks are going to look different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.
We invite you to join us this Fall for an Out of the Darkness Experience. We’re working hard to plan meaningful opportunities to connect and inspire you, and we will share more details about our exciting plans in the coming weeks. We want to keep you up-to-date with the most current information so be sure to sign up and join us!
We are always #TogetherToFightSuicide

By featuring real stories and experiences, It’s Real conveys that depression and other mental health conditions are real illnesses that can be managed through specific treatments and interventions. It encourages students to be mindful of the state of their mental health, to acknowledge and recognize when they are struggling, and to take steps to seek help.
We hope it inspires you to have a #RealConvo today!
Talk Saves Lives is a community-based presentation that covers the general scope of suicide, the research on prevention, and what people can do to fight suicide.
Attendees will learn the risk and warning signs of suicide, and how together, we can help prevent it. Check out a 30 second promo video HERE.

Through our educational programs, we teach schools, communities, and workplaces how to best prevent suicide and create a culture that is smart about mental health. AFSP currently has over 30 educational programs. Many of these programs are brought to your local communities free of charge because of the funds raised from our Out of the Darkness Walks.
We provide the opportunity for local volunteers to be trained to present our community and school based programs such as Talk Saves Lives, More Than Sad, and It’s Real.

About our AFSP chapters
The grassroots work we do focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.
As a part of AFSP’s growing nationwide network of chapters, we bring together people from all backgrounds who want to prevent suicide in our communities. Families and friends who have lost someone to suicide, vulnerable individuals, mental health professionals, clergy, educators, students, community/business leaders, and many others energize our chapters.
