Join us to help save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

 The Mankato Out of the Darkness Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we care about and love.

Important Walk Day Information

Register Online: Please register online before walk day - this will keep crowding to a minimum and get you through check in much faster. For those that are unable to register in advance there will be QR codes placed around the event that will take you to a mobile friendly and simplified registration process. If you have checks or cash to bring on the day of the event, we will have a small station under the pavilion to collect those donations. 2024 Walk t-shirts will be available to pick up on Sunday for individuals that have raised $150 by the day of the walk.
 
There have been a couple unforeseen changes that we want to share with you:
  1. Britt, our amazing Walk Chair, had to step away for personal reasons.
  2. Due to flooding, the location of the walk site and route have changed. We will now be located at Shelter 2. Please refer to the map below.

We know this walk is so important to you, so we will still hold the walk, but it may look and feel a little different this year, but we assure you it will still be a place for connection, community and hope. 

 Additionally, the walk will still offer:
  • Honor Beads / Honor Bead Ceremony
  • The Walk t-shirt for those that individually raise $150+
  • Donation drop-off
  • AFSP resources
  • A photo area 
While the program may be a bit shorter, the site more condensed and the route a bit different, the walk will be a safe place for community members to come together no matter your connection to the cause.
 
Lastly, we are seeking volunteers to help with walk day set up and pre-walk activities as we could use some extra hands to ensure a seamless experience for everyone. If you are interested, please respond to this email or email aleininger@afsp.org. Thank you in advance to anyone that can help us!

FAQs

Is there a registration fee?

There is no registration fee or fundraising minimum to participate.

We strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

 

If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?

The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150 by 09/21/2024.

If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150

 

How do I make an offline donation?

To send a donation by check, please complete the Offline Donation Form and send it with your check to the address provided.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes, dogs are allowed at this Walk.

 

How do I change my team status?

If you're already registered and looking to create a new team or join an existing one, simply log into your account and click "change team membership".

Can I register at the Walk? 

You can register or donate in-person at the Walk by scanning a QR code. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
