Be the Difference was founded in 2023 by Piper Wyman, a junior high school student at the time with a passion for mental health awareness. For the past two years, Piper has led this community walk in Middletown, NJ, aimed at uniting residents to break the stigma surrounding mental health and promote suicide awareness. This walk has achieved more than just raising awareness—it has also raised over $25,000, all of which has been donated to the goals of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).

In addition to the funds raised, Be the Difference has created a sense of community by uniting volunteers from Middletown High School South and North uniting rival schools over an important cause. With the unwavering support of countless volunteers, the Middletown Township, and the school board, each walk has grown bigger and more impactful.

Looking forward, Alex Taddeo has taken on the role of Managing Director for Be the Difference for the year 2025. Together, Alex and Piper are working collaboratively to ensure that the 3rd Annual Be the Difference Walk will be the most successful yet.
