Become A Lifesaver                                              Donate $20.25                                                       Project 20X25

The Mississippi Chapter of AFSP is on a mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.  Our vision to have a world without suicide is gaining strength through awareness and prevention.  In support of our mission the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has a goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.  Because suicide rates are highest in the spring we are asking for a $20.25 donation in reaching our Mississippi Chapter spring fundraiser goal of $20,250.  Saving lives starts with changing beliefs and the stigma associated with suicide.  The Mississippi Chapter is dedicated to Being A Lifesaver and together we are stronger.

In Mississippi, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 15-24.  In the United States, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 10-24.  For every suicide there are 25 attempts.  Over 42,000 Americans die by suicide every year.  On average, one person dies by suicide approximately every 23 hours in Mississippi.

The vast majority of our funding comes from individual donors like you, and we work hard to make the most out of your donations.  The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention offers 21 programs that promote suicide awareness, education and prevention.  With your donations the Mississippi Chapter of AFSP serves, supports and mobilizes our local communities with such programs.  As a Chapter we are volunteers who advocate to help pass policies that will save lives, implement The More Than Sad program in middle and high schools, Truth About Suicide in colleges, After A Suicide (A Toolkit for Schools) and host International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day.

Be The Voice by changing attitudes about suicide and mental illness by creating a culture of excellence and hope.
