An underlying message from within the sports industry is to ‘always be perfect’. For some, it could turn into an uncontrollable pressure that can lead to mental illness.

It’s vital to increase awareness about the mental health problems that are more common in those who play sports professionally. At this level, sport can bring pressure rather than a benefit to the participant’s mental health. A stigma around mental health cannot be denied, and the way to change that is with conversation. Did you ever suffer an injury? How was your recovery? Was it a physical and mental recovery? Or just the first one?

“When athletes suffer from a mental health problem, they are likely to suffer in silence and isolation. While sport psychology is gaining traction, the stigma attached to mental illness is predominant in the athlete world due to the emphasis on appearing physically and mentally fit.” (Source CAMH)

At Innerforce we describe ourselves as a bridge to connect with passionate people who genuinely believe in sports’ power to change the world. We are an American brand with a global presence that delivers custom high-quality technical athletic gear with no minimums focused on triathlon, cycling, running, and swimming. In 2021, we will go one step further to have a bigger impact on their community.

It means you get a seat at the table: you join our family. The group of our closest allies with whom we share the same values and vision. Sport has the power of transforming the lives of people and the community that surrounds them. It doesn't matter whether you are a world championship athlete and aiming for your PB in Kona or pursuing a new challenging race, we look for those who challenge themselves every day.

After we all lived through 2020; there's never been a better time to commit to better and get involved in how we can take others with us. Every little action counts! So for 2021, every athlete on the Team is 100% committed to contributing to a more significant cause: running a year-long fundraising effort to increase awareness on mental health matters and reduce the stigma underlying the sports industry about this topic.

When we took a good look at what the sports industry needed from us, mental health awareness is an area we all agreed needs more attention. Physical activity has been shown to have a strong and positive influence on mental wellbeing and some mental illnesses, can increase self-esteem and reduce stress and anxiety.
