Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Syracuse/Liverpool Walk

*Pre-registered participants will no longer need to check-in at the Walk unless you raised $150 or more and need to pick up your 2021 Walk shirt, or turn in additional funds. We encourage you to register, invite friends, fundraise, and donate in advance to make your day-of event experience as safe and streamlined as possible! Be sure to read items marked UPDATE and check back for any last minute changes.

The Out of the Darkness Syracuse/Liverpool Walk is a special event that provides community, connection, healing, and hope for survivors of suicide loss and those with lived experience. By registering, you are joining a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope.

Every dollar you raise through the Syracuse/Liverpool Walk allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide.

The health and safety of our participants, staff, and volunteers is our top priority. We are requesting that participants stay home if they have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 2 weeks, are waiting for Covid-19 test results, have Covid-19 symptoms, or have recently been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for or has symptoms of Covid-19.

Where is the event taking place?
The event is taking place at Long Branch Park in Liverpool. A walk route map will be posted soon!

 

UPDATE: Are dogs allowed? Well behaved dogs on leash are welcome! Our Chapter Mascot, Enzo, will even be joining us for photos!

 

How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, and no registration fee! We do strongly encourage each participant to set a minimum $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk    t-shirt!

On-Site Activities

AFSP merchandise, basket raffle, and Community Resources!

UPDATE: Preview raffle items and purchase tickets in advance HERE. Up for grabs is a fantastic week in sunny Panama Beach, Florida!

UPDATELiz Petrone, local Syracuse author and suicide survivor, will be at the event! You will be able to purchase her book, The Price of Admission, and have it signed!

 

 

 

UPDATE: You'll want to fuel up before or after you walk, so bring your appetite and enjoy some good eats from Syracuse food truck, Grub on the Run!

            
 Memorial Signs

UPDATE: This opportunity has ended.  Individuals or Teams that raise $500 or more by Sept. 27th will be invited to have a sign made to be displayed on the walk route on event day.

UPDATE: Are you walking virtually?

Here’s how you access the AFSP Out of the Darkness station: 

  • Download the Audacy app for free from the app store
  • Search AFSP, click on the “AFSP Out of the Darkness” station & listen!
  • It’s been curated by our music team to be an uplifting soundtrack to support the walk
  • There are about 4 hours of songs – a mix of widely known pop, adult contemporary, rock hits

Fundraise to Help #StopSuicide

$150+ - Walk t-shirt. Raise $150 by October 9th and receive the official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt!

UPDATE: Please note, t-shirts are ordered a month in advance and based on registration numbers at that time. If we run out of your shirt size on event day, we will order you a shirt and have it sent to you!

In addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations on-site.
