Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Tri-Parish Walk
Important Message about the Tri-Parish Walk
We hope you and your families are safe and well right now in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. We know the past several weeks have been incredibly difficult for our volunteers and supporters in South Louisiana. As we continue to recover in the weeks and months ahead, we know you may be feeling overwhelmed and in need of support. We encourage you to reach out to SAMSHA’s Disaster Distress Hotline at 1-800-985-5990 or visit the State of Louisiana’s Hurricane Ida Recovery and Information website.
Given the extensive damage to the Houma/Thibodaux area, the St. Mary Parish and Bayou Region Walk Committees have made the decision to combine forces to host one event. The combined Tri-Parish event will take place on Saturday, October 16th, at the Bayou Vista Community Center (1333 Bellview St.) in Morgan City (click here for turn-by-turn directions). We sincerely appreciate your understanding as we work to create a safe and meaningful event for everyone. All funds – including team fundraising and event sponsorships – will transfer over to the new Tri-Parish walk website. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Meghan Goldbeck at email@example.com or 504-220-6100.
Thank you for all you do for AFSP Louisiana and the Out of the Darkness Walks. We are so grateful for your steadfast support, especially during an incredibly challenging time. Now, more than ever, it’s important to be there for one another and take steps to safeguard our mental health and prevent suicide. If you are able to join us, we hope to see you at our Tri-Parish walk on Saturday, October 16th in Morgan City.

Our community has always been the heart of the Out of the Darkness Walks. The global pandemic has impacted the emotional and economic well-being of many individuals and families, and left many of us to manage a variety of emotions, including feelings of uncertainty. We also know increases in suicide are not a foregone conclusion if we act now to mitigate risk and support the mental health of our friends, families, and neighbors. But we need your help. Every dollar you raise through the Out of the Darkness Walks allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide.

Activities of Hope and Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
