We're moving forward with plans to host our Out of the Darkness Community Walks in person beginning fall 2021. The health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers will be our top priorities as we work with local authorities to make decisions about event details, and we'll continue to offer options to participate online and in your neighborhood.

Now, more than ever, it’s important to be there for one another and take steps to safeguard our mental health and prevent suicide.

Register today to stay up to date on the latest news and announcements for the Greater Lehigh Valley Walk.

Registration is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted until December 31st.

Live Stream on Walk Day

We are going to live stream parts of the walk from our Chapter Facebook page for those of you who would like to participate virtually. Please make sure to follow our page here: to ensure that you can view our live stream.

What to Expect On Walk Day

People who have registered online before the walk no longer need to check-in at the walk. That means you don't have to arrive directly at 10:00 am. We will have activities and community resources at the walk to check out before the ceremony begins, but the hours of 10:00 am - 12:00 pm are reserved for that. If you need to register  the day of the event, you can show up any time between 10:00am-12:00 pm to do so, but we recommend arriving early to ensure you have enough time.

Walk Kick-Off Party!

Join us on Thursday, August 19th from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm at Pat's Pizza Bistro for our Out of the Darkness Walk Kick-Off Party! The address is 1426 West Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018
Come meet the walk planning committee, meet other team captains and get some walk goodies! A portion of all proceeds will go to the walk, so come out and support this event!

Why Register?

Our community has always been the heart of the Out of the Darkness Walks. The global pandemic has impacted the emotional and economic well-being of many individuals and families, and left many of us to manage a variety of emotions, including feelings of uncertainty. We also know increases in suicide are not a foregone conclusion if we act now to mitigate risk and support the mental health of our friends, families, and neighbors. But we need your help. Every dollar you raise through the Out of the Darkness Walks allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide.

It’s more important than ever for us to stay connected. Though there are many unknowns, there are a few things we know for sure:

  1. You belong to a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope.
  2. We remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone.
  3. Mental Health and suicide prevention are more important than ever, and we’re confident that with your help we can reach more people than ever before.

Register Today and help save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.

The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
