Date: 10/23/2021
Location: Third Street Promenade (1200 Block- Between Wilshire and Arizona, next to Cabo Cantina)
Registration: 9:00 am
Event Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Check-in for the in-person component will be at 9am, and we will start at 10am. We look forward to seeing you this year- both virtually, and in-person!

Registration will be ONLINE ONLY this year. Please spread the word and encourage your team members to register. Day of we will have QR Codes around the venue should we have folks who "walk up". We are encouraging you to donate online as well or mail in your donations using the offline donation forms. However, you may still turn in donations at registration. 

COVID-19 INFO: The health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers are our top priorities. We have been working with local authorities to make decisions about event details. Masks will be encouraged throughout the venue, but not required. We will also have hand sanitizer and extra masks available to those that would like them. Many of our chosen activities this year will revolve around as little contact as possible. Why Register?

Our community has always been the heart of the Out of the Darkness Walks. The global pandemic has impacted the emotional and economic well-being of many individuals and families, and left many of us to manage a variety of emotions, including feelings of uncertainty. We also know increases in suicide are not a foregone conclusion if we act now to mitigate risk and support the mental health of our friends, families, and neighbors. But we need your help. Every dollar you raise through the Out of the Darkness Walks allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide. 

It’s more important than ever for us to stay connected. Though there are many unknowns, there are a few things we know for sure:

  1. You belong to a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope.
  2. We remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone.
  3. Mental Health and suicide prevention are more important than ever, and we’re confident that with your help we can reach more people than ever before.

We are looking for volunteers to help with the event.  We have monthly meetings leading up to the event day. Take a moment and complete our Volunteer Form so our walk chairs may connect with you!

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.


The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

No, there is no registration fee to participate. 

How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official 2021 Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt

Can I fundraise after the walk?
Yes! Donations are excepted until December 31, 2021.
