Welcome to the 3rd Annual
Maryland Paws for Prevention Event
Join us for the Annual Maryland Paws for Prevention Event! Throughout the month of May we will encourage you to be proactive about your physical and mental health, fundraise, and be the voice for suicide prevention. We will offer a get-together on May 11 from 4-10 pm at Bark Social in Bethesda and will run a photo contest to find our Chapter Mascot for next year! Everyone who raises $25 or more will receive a pooch bandana in the mail (will be mailed out starting May 1). Everyone who raises $100 or more by May 31 will receive a Paws for Prevention Shirt in the mail by the end of June.
Although fundraising is optional and there is no minimum fundraising requirement (and no fee to walk), each dollar raised helps us deliver suicide prevention programs both in Maryland and nationally. With last year's fundraising, and despite COVID-19, the AFSP Maryland Chapter was able to educate over 2,000 Marylanders on suicide prevention. Your donations also contributed to over $5.3 million in scientific research grants awarded by AFSP to support studies that will increase our understanding of suicide or test treatments and other interventions that save lives. As a Chapter we continue to offer Healing Conversations, a peer to peer program for loss survivors.
There are 3 small things you can do to kick-start your fundraising work:
- Personalize your walker page online. Telling your story will make those who see your page feel more emotionally connected to you and the cause. If you're a team captain, be sure to personalize your team page!
- Donate to yourself, even just a modest sum of $10, to show others you are committed to the cause. It's easier to ask others for money if they see you have also donated.
- Share your page and story with others. It's OK to ask for donations! And you may have to ask several times – that’s OK too!
GET-TOGETHER AT BARK SOCIAL
Stop by at Bark Social any time on May 11 from 4-10 pm to meet with AFSP staff board members and staff as well as other supporters like you to mingle and chat. The dog park allows pups and their humans to socialize and connect with others!
10% of all beer sales on March 11 from 4-10 pm will benefit the Paws for Prevention Event.
Address: 935 Prose Street, North Bethesda, MD 20852
All humans are welcome, whether you have a dog or are just a dog enthusiast. Humans under 21 may visit any time before 8 pm, and must be accompanied by an adult over 21.
If you are bringing dogs, all dogs must abide by park rules:
Uploaded and updated vaccinations (rabies and distemper)
Fixed if over a year old
All dogs must be off leash and no muzzles, pinch collars, or e-collars
Only owners are allowed to bring dogs in–no fosters
Every $1 donated to your fundraising page equals 1 vote for your pet!
The pet with the most votes (most $ raised) by May 31 at midnight will become the Maryland Chapter Mascot for one year (July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023)
