Welcome to the Out of the Darkness
Dutchess & Ulster Counties Walk
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.
If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150.
How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.
Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!
Can I register at the Walk? Yes! You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
Can I bring my dog? Yes! Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the Walk.
Parking, route, and other info will be updated as we get closer to Walk Day.

Available Walk Volunteer Positions (June-Oct). - Contact the Walk Chair
Participant & Team Recruitment:
Assembles distribution lists; disseminates brochures, posters neighborhood shops and businesses with flyers; shares invitations to professional networks, friends, family, and friends-of-friends; identifies community events for tabling; etc.
Develops and implements a team recruitment plan.
Conducts walk kick-off distribution.
Generates media coverage and public information in advance of the walk to assist with recruitment, places PSAs and press releases.
Secures cash sponsorship.
Solicits and receives donations for giveaways.
Do you or someone you know work for a company that is community oriented and supports non-profit organizations? Simply email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like a customized sponsor packet sent to you. All sponsor dollars support mental health research, prevention education, advocacy, and support for loss survivors.
Entertainment & Programming:
Contact prospective guests (well-known local figures that may be able to emcee).
Secure local artists, vendors for the event.
Contact musicians and DJs to provide entertainment at the walk.
Coordinates first-aid personnel and procedures.
Food & Beverage:
Arrange corporate donations of food and beverages for participants; secures snacks and water for event.
There are many volunteer opportunities, and you can give as little or as much time as you would like. Reach out to the walk chair!
