Walk Location: California State Capitol at the West Steps (off 10th Street between L and N Streets in Downtown Sacramento)
Registration* & Resource Fair: 9:00 a.m.
Event Ceremony & Walk**: 10:00 am

*Only need to come to Registration to donate cash/checks, pick up your AFSP t-shirt ($150+ donated/raised), or register day-of.

**Our Walk route is approximately two miles. The Walk follows our event program and should begin by 10:30 a.m.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Volunteer at the Event

Event Committee and Day-of Walk volunteers are always needed and we cannot be successful without them! 

*NEW* Complete this Google Form to become a day-of volunteer; volunteers should also complete event/walker registration. Fundraise to Help #StopSuicide

$150+ - Raise $150 by 10/01/2022 and receive the official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt!   Donations can be made to a team as a whole,  but the T-shirt and other incentives are based only on INDIVIDUAL fundraising.  

*NEW* The top three fundraising teams and top three fundraising individuals will be announced and recognized at the end of our Walk/event! 

*NEW* Fundraise today to particpate in our raffle! Raise $1 for 1 ticket, $100 for each additional ticket (Ex. $500 = 6 tickets). We will be informing winners via text during the Walk.

FAQs

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.

 

If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150

 

How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.

 

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

 

Can I register at the Walk? Yes!  You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

 

Parking, route, and other info will be updated as we get closer to Walk Day.

On-Site Activities

Check out our 15+ Resource Partners who are focused on suicide prevention and mental health, including our AFSP Greater Sacramento Chapter!

Bring a homemade poster or create a poster while on-site for the Walk! Poster boards and pens will be provided.

Honor Beads

Honor Beads will be available on-site to show your connection(s) to the cause. You will also need your Honor Beads for our Event Ceremony at 10 a.m.

Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to take which Honor Beads they are connected to. Learn more about each of the 10 Honor Bead colors here.

 
Hope & Healing

Share messages of hope and remembrance with our colored paper hearts.

Photos of loved ones are welcomed but please be sure to take the printed photo home after our event is over.

Our event program includes our Honor Bead Ceremony stories, a song by Sister Luck, and a stretch by DOMA Studios.
