Friday Night Pre-Walk Event

Join us THIS FRIDAY NIGHT at Bar Anticipation from 5pm-7pm!! 

We are encouraging walkers to come join us to grab your official Out of the Darkness Walk shirt (if you raised $150 or more), pick up your Honor Beads, and turn in any additional funds. This will allow you to show up on walk day and skip all the lines!

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Important Day Of Walk Details

Date:  Saturday, September 24th
Location: Bar Anticipation, 703 16th Avenue, Lake Como
Walker Arrival Time: 8:00 am 
Opening Ceremony: 8:45 am
Walk Starts: 9:00am
Parking: We encourage walkers to carpool as parking is extremely limited. (Participants may be able to find free or metered parking on the street).
When you arrive: There is no need to "check-in" anymore. If you need to register, turn in additional donations, or pick up your OOTD Walk T-shirt (for those who raised $150 or more, please stop by the Day Of Registration Tent. If not, then please begin to enjoy the numerous event day activities that we will have going on. 
Walk Route: We will depart Bar A and head up 16 th Ave to the boardwalk. Once we reach the boardwalk, we will TURN LEFT and go north to 5th Ave. Once you reach 5th Ave, we will turn around on the boardwalk and head south back to 16th Ave to return to Bar A. Length of route is about 3 miles.
Honor Beads: Honor Beads will be available to show your connection(s) to the cause.
Merchandise: AFSP shirts, hats and water bottles will be available for purchase! Cash or credit accepted.
Bathrooms: The restrooms at Bar Anticipation will be open 
Raffle: we will be selling raffle tickets for both our silent auction and 50/50! 
After Walk Lunch: We will again be providing lunch, free for our walkers, after you return from the walk. Please stay and join us in the outside back area of Bar Anticipation. 
Loss and Healing: We will have a Loss & Healing area for anyone who may need support on walk day. This tent will be located by where the detached garage is in the parking lot of our set-up. 
Walk T-shirts: for everyone who raised $150 or more (individual fundraising, not team fundraising) - must be picked up on the day of the walk.

The Out of the Darkness Jersey Shore Walk is a special event that provides community, connection, healing, and hope for survivors of suicide loss and those with lived experience.

By registering for the walk, you are joining a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope.

Every dollar you raise through the Jersey Shore Walk allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide.

Team Fundraising Challenges

1. The Top 6 Teams as of walk day will receive their own private cabana once you return from the walk. 

2. Walk teams that raise $2,500 or more online by Thursday, September 15 at 12PM will have a TEAM YARD SIGN on walk day!

3. Walk teams that raise $1,000 or more online by Friday, August 26th at 12PM will have their team name printed on the back of the 2022 Jersey Shore Out of the Darkness Walk shirt.

Fundraise to Help #StopSuicide

$150+ - Raise $150 by 09/24/2022 and receive the official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt!   Donations can be made to a team as a whole,  but the T-shirt and other incentives are based only on INDIVIDUAL fundraising.  

The Top 6 teams as of walk day will receive a private cabana for their team after returning from the walk!

FAQs

When and where is the event taking place? The Walk is scheduled for Saturday, September 24th at Bar Anticipation in Lake Como, NJ.

Is there Parking at the Walk? Parking will be extremely limited, so we recommend car pooling or taking an Uber. Please be sure to allow extra time for this. 

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

 

 

If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?

No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150

 

How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.

How do I set up my personal fundraising page? If you need help logging into or setting up your fundraising page, click here for a step-by-step guide.

What is the Walk route?  Download the map here!

 

Can I register at the Walk? Yes!  You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Can I bring my dog? Yes!  Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the Walk.
