Welcome to the Out of the Darkness

Portsmouth Walk  


The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.


Important Walk Day Details 

 Please read carefully through the important details for walk day below! 

  • Walk Location: Pierce Island, Portsmouth NH
  • Walker Arrival Time9:00am
  • Pets - Well behaved Leashed Dogs are encouraged to attend. Please clean up after them.
  • Children of all ages are welcome.
  • We will be offering contactless registration.
    There will be a walk-up registration and a way to drop off donations, but if possible, please register and donate online to save time and support physical distancing.
  • Continue to read for tips on how to prepare for the day of the walk.

Registration:  Pre-Registration is Strongly encouraged. Those who pre-register at www.afsp.org/portsmouth WILL NOT have to check-in on the day of the event. If you are bringing friends and family to the walk, please encourage them to register ahead of time, or you may register them yourself. For walkers who not pre-registered, QR codes for mobile registration will be available at the Walk, but again, pre-registration is encouraged.

Donations: We strongly encourage everyone to ask your supporters to donate online whenever possible. If you have have collected check or cash donations that need to be turned in, envelopes will be available at the Registration Tent. If possible, please print, complete and bring an Offline Donation Form to submit with your donations. This will help to ensure that your donations are appropriately credited to your individual fundraising page.

Items to bring to the walk:

  • Your Smartphone - for Pictures and Online Payments via QR Code
  • A mask if needed (we will have extras on site)
  • A blanket or lawn chair if you would like to sit down
  • Cash for the Raffle
    *Credit cards will be accepted via PayPal Here Mobile App
  • A picture from a past Portsmouth Walk for our Alumni Wall

Event Day:  Walkers will have the opportunity to pick up honor beads, enjoy music, take a team photo, pick up resources, and more! Walkers raising $150 or more will also be able to pick up their 2022 Out of the Darkness T-Shirt.
*Walkers raising $150 or more will be able to pick up their 2022 Walk T-Shirt.
*Walkers raising $1,000 will be able to pick up their LifeSaver Club Mugs

Ceremony: The opening ceremony will start at 10am followed by approximately a 2.5 mile walk 

Parking: Please utilize the parking lot adjacent to the event or the parking area just before the event location on the right.

Safety procedures and guidelines:

  1. We are requesting participants to stay home if they have tested positive for COVID-19, are waiting for COVID-19 test results, have COVID-19 symptoms, or if they have had close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19
  2. Please bring and use mask(s) at the event if you are concerned about transmission of the Virus.
  3. We will have masks on-hand to provide to participants who would like one

We will have a limited supply of AFSP Branded merchandise available for purchase. Prices range from $5 to $40. Payments by Credit card or exact cash are appreciated.

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.


If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150


How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.


Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!


Can I register at the Walk? Yes!  You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Can I bring my dog? Yes!  Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the Walk.


Parking, route, and other info will be updated as we get closer to Walk Day.
