Date: Saturday, October 22, 2022

Location: Salve Regina University , McAuley Hall 22 Ochre Point Ave Newport, RI

Walk-up Registration and Activities Begins: 9:00 am 

  • Pick up your honor beads

  • AFSP Store for merchandise

  • Leave a message of Hope on the AFSP banner

  • Create a Why I Walk….. Button

  • Visit our Community Partner tables.

  • Take team photos

Opening Ceremony Begins: 10:00 am

Walk Begins: around 10:20 am -10:30 am immediately following the opening ceremony

Walk Route:  1.5 Miles along the beautiful Cliff Walk and Salve Regina University Campus (see map below). The route is on mixed terrain, grass, pavement, and gravel.  Complete the loop twice if you would like to do 3 miles. 

Parking: Street parking on Shepard East, Ochre Point Ave., and McKillop Library lots for parking (DO NOT PARK IN THE MILEY LOT – this is used for the football game)

Family and Dog Friendly: Dogs must be leashed the entire time and remain outdoors. Dogs are not allowed in indoor areas of the event. Please register any children attending over the age of 5 as team members ahead of time or at the walk-up registration table.

Route Accessibility: The route is accessible by wheelchairs and strollers, but there are grassy, gravel and small decline/incline areas on the route. There will be an alternative accessible route offered before the decline area, which may not be conducive to strollers or adaptive walking or movement.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.


If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150


How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.


Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!


Can I register at the Walk? Yes!  You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Can I bring my dog? Yes!  Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the Walk.
