The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Important Registration Area Information!

Participants only need to come to the Registration Area for four reasons:

to drop off cash/checks and/or donate by card via QR code

to pick up their fundraiser shirt ($150 individually raised)

to pick up opportunity drawing tickets and any other qualifying walk incentives

to register day-of via QR code

Fundraise to Help #StopSuicide

$150+ - Raise $150 on your personal page by 09/09/2023 and receive the official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt day-of!   

$250+ - Raise $250+ on your personal page by 09/09/2023 and earn a Recognition Gift.

$1,000+ - Raise $1,000 by 09/09/2023 and be recognized as a "Champion of Hope". You'll also receive one (1) VIP parking spot, access to our Champions of Hope Area, two (2) tickets to an upcoming Sacramento Republic FC home match, and automatically entered to win one of the following prizes:

  • Four floor tickets to the V101.1 Holiday Jam at Golden 1 Center, or
  • Four tickets to see Queen, featuring Adam Lambert, at Chase Center, or
  • A Two-Night Stay in a Calistoga King Studio (Sun-Thurs) at Solage in Napa plus a Gourmet Dinner Package for Two on the Napa Valley Wine Train.

$1,000+ - Raise $1,000 as a team by Friday, August 11 and receive a team sign at the Walk!

$1,500+ - Raise $1,500 as a team by Friday, July 28 and your team name will be included on the back of the Walk t-shirt!

$2,500+ - Raise $2,500 as a team by Wednesday, September 6 and receive a reserved team table day-of.

$5,000+ - Raise $5,000 as a team by Wednesday, September 6 to earn access to our Champion of Hope area day-of and complimentary VIP parking spots.

Opportunity Drawings

Opportunity Drawing

  • Every person that registers receives ONE opportunity drawing ticket.
  • Receive ONE additional opportuinty drawing ticket for each $100 raised on your personal fundraising page.
  • Prizes include gift cards and products ranging $50-$180.

Special Opportunity Drawing

  • Purchase tickets to take part in our Special Opportunity Drawing featuring gift packages and items ranging $120-$1,100.
  • $1 each ticket, 6 tickets for $5, 25 tickets for $20. Cash preferred, card OK.

FAQs

Is there a registration fee? No, there is no registration fee to participate.

 

If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt? No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150

 

How do I make an offline donation? To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.

 

Is there a fundraising minimum? No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

How long is this year's Walk Route? No more than 1.5 miles and we will be walking around Sutter Health Park on mostly sidewalks, but part of the route will go through the dirt warning track of the baseball field.

 

Can I register at the Walk? Yes! You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Are dogs or other pets allowed? No. Dogs and other pets are not allowed inside Sutter Health Park unless they are a service animal.

 

Where do I park and is parking free?
Parking is available at the Sutter Health Park stadium parking lot and parking is free! Find directions and more parking information here.

Day-of Experience: Resources & Activities

On-Site Activities

Stop by the AFSP Area to learn more about volunteering with the AFSP Greater Sacramento Chapter, pick up resources and hear about our programs for schools, workplaces, etc., and purchase AFSP merchandise.

Paint a rock with our friends at SactoCaliRocks! Rocks will be provided and pre-painted.

Visit our 20+ Resource Partners who will be sharing about their mental health and suicide prevention resources, programs and services for yourself and/or loved ones.

Bring your own handmade poster from home, or your welcome to make a poster at our event! Bring a photo(s) or anything else you'd like to add to it. We provide the paper, pens and tape!

We will also have coloring pages and a Kids Zone!

 
Honor Beads

Honor Beads will be available on-site to show your connection(s) to the cause. You can take as many Honor Beads that resonate with you. The beads are free and we encourage everyone to take at least one for our Honor Bead Ceremony that takes place during the Opening Ceremony before the Walk.

Hope & Healing

**NEW** Bring a new pair of socks that remind you of your loved one. Cards will be available on-site for you to write your loved one's name. Socks will be donated to local agencies following the event in their honor.

Visit our We Remember Banner to write a message or your loved one's name, add a photo print-out, etc. We welcome you to come back and take the item(s) before leaving our event.

Leave a message of hope on our Chalk Wall! Please be sure to follow our safe messaging guidelines.
