Walk Day Details 9/23/2023
Weather Conditions as of 9/21: Rain is forecasted to begin around 11 a.m. on Saturday, 9/23. We will walk rain or shine. Please dress accordingly and bring rain gear.
Walk Location: Roger Williams Park, Temple of Music
Parking: Parking is along the RIGHT Side of the park road. Allow time to walk to the Temple of Music location. Accessible parking will be available at the Temple of Music location. Please let us know if you have an accessible tag for parking so we can ensure we reserve enough spaces. If you plan to drop people off before parking, note that the road is one-way.
Walk Day Activities: Begin at 9:00 am
Walk Ceremony: Begins at 10:00 am with the walk to immediately follow.
Walk Route: Walk route is round 3.1 miles 5k. We will depart from the Temple of Music and walk a loop on a flat paved road.
- The walk route is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
- If unable to walk the route, a special remembrance activity will take place at the main site during walk time.
Honor Beads: Honor Beads will be available on-site to show your connection(s) to the cause. There will be an honor bead ceremony during the opening ceremony.
Walk Day Activities: We will have numerous walk day activities available for walkers to participate in. There is no charge for any of these activities.

- Paws from the Heart- Therapy Dogs
- Community Partner Resources
- Raffle Prizes (Tickets available 9am to 9:45 am) Drawing will take place during the walk. Winners will be notified by text during the walk. Prizes can be picked up on the way out.
Merchandise: AFSP shirts, hats, water bottles, and bandanas will be available for purchase! Credit Cards accepted.
Bathrooms: Portable Toilets will be available at the Temple of Music
Dogs: Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome.
Team And Walker Incentives
Walk T-shirts: for everyone who raises $150 or more by walk day 9/23 (individual fundraising, not team fundraising)
LifeSavers Club: Individuals who raise $988 or more will become a member of the AFSP-RI LifeSavers Club. Members receive a special gift walk day and a VIP invite to the annual Volunteer and Partner Appreciation Dinner and other chapter events.
Remembrance Lawn Signs: Teams or Individuals who raise $988 or more may request a Remembrance Lawn Sign to be displayed along the walk route and yours to keep afterward. Deadline 9/13 to submit request
Team Raffle Baskets: Teams can donate a raffle basket to the AFSP-RI raffle and earn funds for their team. If interested, email northernriwalk@gmail.com
Top Three Fundraising Teams: as of Wednesday, 9/13, will receive a team banner and lead the walk.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Can I register at the Walk? Yes! You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st. Are dogs allowed? Not sure, check back later for more details. |
