The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

Partner with us as an event sponsor for the Thurston County Out of the Darkness Walk taking place on Saturday, September 9, 2023. Our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide would not be possible without the community engagement. Today, support for mental health is needed more than ever and we are asking you to join us in the movement to prevent suicide. With your help, the Washington Chapter will be able to maximize our mission impact by reaching and serving more people through our lifesaving programs and resources.

Thurston County Walk FAQs

1. What is the distance for the 2023 Walk? About 1.7 miles. There is no minimum or maximum you have to walk.

2. When, where, and what time is the event? ​

  • Saturday 9/9/23. 

  • At Marathon Park. 

  • 11:00am is when registration starts, opening Ceremony is at 12:00pm, the walk will kick off at the end of the ceremony, and the event ends at 2:00pm. 

3. Do I have to raise $150 to participate in the walk? No, while this is a fundraising event, there is not minimum you have to raise to walk with us. You do have to pre-register online to walk. 

4. I'd like to Volunteer t what can I do? We always need help! Please fill out the form.

Fundraise to Help #StopSuicide

$150+ - Raise $150 by 09/09/2023 and receive the official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt!   Donations can be made to a team as a whole,  but the T-shirt and other incentives are based only on INDIVIDUAL fundraising.

FAQs

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.

 

If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150

 

How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.

 

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

 

Can I register at the Walk? Yes!  You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Are dogs allowed? Not sure, check back later for more details.

 

Parking, route, and other info will be updated as we get closer to Walk Day.
