“The marathon is not really about the marathon, it’s about the shared struggle. And it’s not only the marathon but the training.”
-Bill Buffum, Boulder Road Runners
Dear Friend,
The mission statement of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide. I will do my part to bring hope to those affected by suicide by running in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 12, 2025, as a member of the AFSP Race for Hope team. This involves two commitments: training for a marathon and fundraising for AFSP. The first will demand perseverance and discipline; the second will demand that I discuss suicide with others and remove its stigma. I will do the training and run the race, but I’m asking you to share with me the struggle to bring suicide out of the darkness.
This edition of the Chicago Marathon will be very special for me, as I will be running in memory of my younger brother, Nick. Being a bit of a daredevil himself, I think he would approve of all of my crazy running adventures, so this one is dedicated to him.
You can help bring hope to all of us that have been touched by suicide by contributing to my fundraiser. The money I raise for AFSP will fund scientific research, educate the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention, promote policies and legislation that impact suicide, and support survivors of suicide loss and people at risk.
All donations are 100% tax deductible. Donating online is safe and easy. To make an online donation please click the "Donate Now" button at the top of this page. Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and please wish me luck completing my training and getting to the starting line healthy and a different person than I am today
