Remelinda - or Dayin to most friends and family - was fiercely strong. She was my mom, a loving sister, an ICU nurse, and an avid shopper, but also so much more than that. She was fun, adventurous, and forged her own path in this world. She pushed her way through so many trials and tribulations by sheer willpower, but felt like she had to carry the effects of that all alone.
Suicide and mental illness are both painful and confusing, but I don't want to shy away from what happened. I hope and pray that she has found peace, but also hope that our loss can be a reminder that you do not have to carry the weight of the world alone. No matter how uncomfortable it may be to admit, talk about or ask for help, please let my experience be a reminder that you need to. There’s no moving forward if you don’t.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, I ask that you consider donating to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in loving memory of my mom.
Rest in peace now, Momma.
