Rachel McKay was a former teammate, co-captain, and most importantly a best friend of mine. We met in high school at the hockey rink which was one of Rachel's favorite places. It only makes sense to host a game in her honor back at the rink. Rachel brought me under her wing as the new girl to the team and made me feel welcomed and appreciated.

Rachel was a standout golf, hockey, and softball player at Marblehead High School. She continued to play both golf and hockey at Hobart and William Smith.

She was a vital player in the local hockey community. In high school, Rachel had 45 goals and 53 assists at Marblehead which ranks her as the fifth all time points leader in program history. She also holds the program record for most assists (22) in one season. Other accolades she received throughout her high school hockey career include team captain, league all-star, 7th player award, and unsung hero award. Her successes continued into college where she even managed to score a goal against my team when we played against each other our Freshman year which I know made her happy!

It's no shock to me that Rachel still holds the program record for most assists in one season. This describes Rachel perfectly. She was always so generous on and off the ice. Rachel was also dedicated to all her sports and determined to be the best player she could be. Rachel was the kind of player you hoped would be your line mate. She is the quintessential team player.

The game on February 19th is in honor of Rachel and to bring awareness to mental health. We strive for a community the recognizes and supports those with mental health obstacles so that no one else needs to suffer. Please consider donating to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in hopes that it could save at least one more life.
