Michael Philip Hurst

1993 - 2023

If you have ever had a Michael Hurst hug, then you know the kindness and warmth that radiated from his soul and shone from his sparkling eyes that were the color of the stormy, infinite sea. He had a golden heart that generously wrapped those he touched in the comfort and sincerity of his sweet love.

When he was little he was full of curiosity and joy, collecting “wittle wizards” and making us laugh with his “Got Milk” mustaches, silly antics and jokes to make all those around him laugh. Michael loved his family and would do anything for them. He was the oldest of the cousins and was the big brother to more than just his siblings. Even as a little guy, he would proudly pull them around in wagons at parades, lead them on hikes, fish with them, chase moths, school them in how to sled, ski, sleech, wrestle his uncles and so much more. He was good at everything – golfing, paddle-boarding, snowboarding, scuba and skydiving. He was always fully present in the moments that mattered, like sitting by a campfire roasting marshmallows and singing with wild abandon. As he grew, his athletic ability blossomed. He played football and baseball for Silver Creek and caught the eye of college recruiters. He was strong and agile and his younger cousins and siblings looked at him with awe and admiration. As a young adult, he was adventurous and loved to travel. He moved to Alaska to work with a fishing outfitter, where he shared his quiet smile with strangers and grew into an independent man. He came home and worked in the restaurant industry and created another family of friends and co-workers who were lucky to call him friend. Michael was someone you could always count on coming when you called. He helped his Uncle renovate a house, BBQ’d for his friends, wrangled horses, dogs, cats and chickens, landscaped for his Mom, built things, fixed cars and rescued stranded friends.

Michael was adored, more than he will ever know. Though his life was cut too short, he will live on in the beautiful memories that his family and friends hold dear. Michael was born in Layton, Utah on June 29, 1993 and left us on January 31, 2023. He graduated from Silver Creek High School in 2011. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He leaves behind his Mother and Step-Father, JoLyn and Scott Oliver, his sister, Lindsay, his brothers Tyler and Dylan Oliver, as well as his Father Scott Ronald Hurst, several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and his Grandmothers Vena Lee Cannon and Sue Hurst, his friends, Genevieve Redman, his dog Tank, and his cat MacLeon. He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers, Leon Hurst and Philip Cannon. Michael had a large, loving family for whom he will be forever present. His soul is at rest now, but his memory for all who loved him will be forever young, precious and beloved. Sleep well sweet prince, the dawn has come for you – though we are still lost in the night of your passing, we look forward to meeting you again someday on the other shore.
