About our AFSP chapters

The grassroots work we do focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.

As a part of AFSP’s growing nationwide network of chapters, we bring together people from all backgrounds who want to prevent suicide in our communities. Families and friends who have lost someone to suicide, vulnerable individuals, mental health professionals, clergy, educators, students, community/business leaders, and many others energize our chapters.

Last year we started recognizing Champions of Hope who are Texas walkers who raised $988 for any Out of the Darkness Walk in Texas. We’re excited to bring back the Texas Champions of Hope program this year!

Why $988? Last summer the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline launched their new number nationwide, 988. If you or someone you know is crisis, you can call 988 and be connected with a crisis counselor. They’re available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
