Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Salt Lake City Walk
Location: Veteran's Memorial Park West Jordan
Time: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Check- In begins at 9:00 am
Registration will be ONLINE ONLY this year. Please spread the word and encourage your team members to register. Day of we will have QR Codes around the venue if you have not registered. You will scan teh QR Code and complete the form. Pre- registered walkers will NOT need to check in UNLESS you need to turn in donations. We are encouraging you to donate online as well or mail in your donations using the offline donation forms. We will NOT have cash to make change. You can donate online using Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Venmo, Pay Pal and Credit Card.
Honor Guard Ceremony 9:30 am Featuring West Jordan Fire Department
Our Opening Ceremony will include a special tribute to our First Responders and Military in honor of the 20 year anniversary of
9-11. We are encouraging walkers to stay 6 feet apart from those NOT in your household. Our venue is large enough with a loud sound system that will accommodate the space. We do encourage mask wearing when you can't maintain a 6 ft distance. Let's work together to keep each other safe so we can enjoy our in-person event!
Honor Bead Ceremony 10:30 am Featuring your fellow walkers!
Walkers may take a loop around the park at their leisure if they prefer. We have a balloon arch on the north end of the venue where we encourage you to start from. Our "official" walk start will be at the conclusion of the Honor Bead Ceremony. We ask that you stay with your group and maintain a 6 ft distance from others for safety. The route inside Veteran's Memorial will be closed to traffic so you may walk in the street and use the sidewalks. Vendors and activities will be available during the event until 12:00 pm.

Parking is allowed in the City Office buildings around the Park. Overflow will be in the Rodeo Grounds and across the street in the vacant lot on Redwood Road and 8020 South. We will have officers monitoring traffic as you cross Redwood Road. There is also a Trax stop called: West Jordan City Center that is adjacent to the vacant lot on Redwood.
*The inner circle of Veteran’s Memorial Park will be closed to traffic throughout the event for safety. The walk route will take place in the park. Strollers, bikes, scooters are welcome, please be mindful of those around you. Leashed pets are allowed in the park but MUST be cleaned up after by owners.

If you’ve already registered and would like to either create a new team or join an existing one, log into your AFSP account and click on the “change team membership” option on the right hand side of your dashboard tab (on mobile you’ll need to click “dashboard” first). We will NOT have a in-person registration to minimize crowd size and gathering. Please encourage your team members to register early. If you need to turn in donations day of, we will have a event check in for you to do so.

We will host a Community Resource fair and have invited our local community partners. We ask that while you visit our vendor booths that you watch your distance. Masks will be encouraged when you can't maintain 6 ft space. Vendor Booths will close at 12 pm.
We are excited to be joined by, Sinners and Saints Coffee, Waffle Love and World's Best Corn Dog Food Trucks. They will each be donating a portion of their proceeds to AFSP Utah!

Shirts have to be ordered 4 weeks prior to the event. We will have a T-Shirt Pickup at Registration and Check in.
If we run out of your size, it will be mailed ot you after the event.
Honor Beads (provided while supplies last)
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
This year's event falls on the 20 year anniversary of 9/11. We will be handing out the silver bead to all walkers to honor our first responders, military and all those who worked on the frontlines this last year to help save lives in our communities. We will also join in a moment of silence to honor the lives lost on 9/11.
The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
