*Pre-registered participants will no longer need to check-in at the Walk, so we encourage you to register, invite friends, fundraise, and donate in advance to make your day-of event experience as safe and streamlined as possible! Be sure to read items marked UPDATE and check back for any last minute changes.

The Out of the Darkness Greater Ithaca Walk is a special event that provides community, connection, healing, and hope for survivors of suicide loss and those with lived experience. By registering, you are joining a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide while showing up for yourself, recognizing and honoring those you love, raising awareness, educating communities, supporting one another, and sharing hope. Every dollar you raise allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide.

The health and safety of our participants, staff, and volunteers is our top priority. We are requesting that participants stay home if they have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 2 weeks, are waiting for Covid-19 test results, have Covid-19 symptoms, or have recently been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for or has symptoms of Covid-19.

Where is the event taking place?
The event is taking place on Saturday, September 18th at Myers Park in Lansing (click for link). Look for the big blue Out of the Darkness banner! UPDATE: Click here for a park map with walk route!

Are dogs allowed?                                    UPDATE: Yes, if they are on a leash, well behaved with kids and other dogs, and able to pick-up after themselves ;)



UPDATE: How far will I walk?                  The walk route is 4 loops around the park, each loop being 1/2 mile. Anyone who doesn't want to do 2 miles can stay in the activity area. Bring a camp chair and enjoy the sunshine!

Will there be food?                                  UPDATE: Andy the Armadillo from Texas Roadhouse will be on site at 10:45 with sweet rolls and honey butter! There will also be chocolate covered pretzel sticks for purchase (proceeds go to the walk). But save room for Chicken BBQ after you walk!


How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address on the form. Be sure to include your name and "Greater Ithaca Walk"!
UPDATE: You can also turn donations in at the Registration and Event Questions table under the pavilion. Just ask someone in a red Event Shirt if you can't find it.

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No. Also no registration fee, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a minimum $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

What to Expect on Event Day

On site Activities

AFSP merchandise for sale, basket raffle, music, resources, and more! Cash and credit cards accepted. 


UPDATE: Go Green!

Please bring a reusable water bottle with you! No worries if you forget as we will have bottled water available for anyone who needs it, as well as masks and hand sanitizer.

Honor Beads

Honor Beads will be available on-site to show your connection(s) to the cause. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.

Thank you, Hatfield Catering! Stop by the Lansing Town Hall after the walk and pick-up a great meal for a great cause!

UPDATE: Join us for a Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser night on 10/3 at the Ithaca location! Download the flyer here or pick one up at the walk on 9/18. Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of your total purchase from dine-in or takeout orders between 12-9 pm!
