Please join us for the 12th Annual Columbia Charity Golf Tournament on May 15th at the Country Club of Lexington. The tournament will benefit the South Carolina Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). AFSP is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide.
In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 11 minutes, claiming nearly 48,000 lives each year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute, with one million people attempting suicide annually. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in South Carolina for people ages 25-34 and the fifth leading cause of death among adults 45-54. Veterans comprise 18% of all suicide deaths in our country. This is a public health issue that does not discriminate by age, gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.
