 The Out of the Darkness Chicagoland Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about. By registering for the Chicagoland Walk, you are joining a strong community united in an effort to fight suicide. 

Every dollar you raise through the Chicagoland Walk allows AFSP to invest in life-saving research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide.

Chicagoland Walk FAQs

When and where is the event taking place?
The 3 mile walk is taking place on 10/21/2023 at Montrose Harbor. A virtual option will also be offered for those not ready to be in-person.

Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!

If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150.


Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.


How do I set up my personal fundraising page?

How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided. Donations will be accepted through 12/31/2023.

Fundraise to Help #StopSuicide

Chicagoland Walk T-Shirt
$150+ - Walk t-shirt. Raise $150 by 10/21/2023 and receive the official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt.

Red Ribbon Walker and Blue Ribbon Walker
$500-$999 - Red Ribbon Walker.
Receive a red ribbon and gift on-site.
$1,000+ - Blue Ribbon Walker.
Receive a blue ribbon and gift on-site.


*Participants that have raised at least $150 by 10/21/2023 will qualify.

In addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations on-site.


Chicagoland Walk Slideshow
Be included in the slideshow that will be played online as part of the virtual program and onsite at the walk.  

$150 - $299 - A photo of your choosing will be shared in the slideshow.
$300+ - A photo of your choosing plus a message in 20 words or less will be shared in the slideshow.


*Participants that have raised at least $150 by 1:00 pm (CST) Friday, 10/06/23 will qualify.


Top Teams Program
$2,500 - $4,999

Team name on walk website and signage onsite.

$5,000 - $9,999
Team name on 1 walk route sign and table onsite PLUS $2,500 level incentives listed above.

Team will receive a team tent, name on 2 walk route signs, recognition in program PLUS both level incentives listed above.


*Teams that have raised at least $2,500 1:00 pm (CST) Friday, 10/06/23 will qualify.

Donations can be made to a team but the official walk t-shirt and other incentives are based only on INDIVIDUAL fundraising.
