Walk Day Details 10/14/2023

Walk Location: Salve Regina University, McAuley Hall 100 Orchre Point Ave Newport.

Weather: We will walk rain or shine unless there is a severe weather advisory.

What to Bring: Water bottle(there will be a water filling station available), comfortable walking shoes, and dress for the weather. 

Parking: Parking along Ochre Point Ave and Sheppard Ave. Overflow parking in Rogers Lot and Library Lot.

Walk Day Activities and Check-in: Begin at 9:30 am

Walk Ceremony:  Begins at 10:30 a.m., with the walk to immediately follow. 

Walk Route: The Walk route is around 1.5 miles. The loop can be done twice to walk 3 miles.

  • The walk route is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. There is one spot with a slight hill.
  • If unable to walk the route, a special remembrance activity will take place at the main site during walk time.

Honor Beads: Honor Beads will be available on-site to show your connection(s) to the cause. There will be an honor bead ceremony during the opening ceremony.

  • 92 PRO FM booth with concert ticket giveaway- Win a pair of Doja Cat with Ice Spice tickets.

Merchandise: AFSP shirts, hats, water bottles, and bandanas will be available for purchase! Credit Cards accepted.

Bathrooms: Accessible in the main building 

Dogs: Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome

Team And Walker Incentives 

Walk T-shirts: for everyone who raises $150 or more by walk day 10/14 (individual fundraising, not team fundraising) 

LifeSavers Club: Individuals who raise $988 or more will become a member of the AFSP-RI LifeSavers Club. Members receive a special gift walk day and a VIP invite to the annual Volunteer and Partner Appreciation Dinner and other chapter events. 

Remembrance Lawn Signs: Teams or Individuals who raise $988 or more may request a Remembrance Lawn Sign to be displayed along the walk route and yours to keep afterward. Deadline 10/ 8 submit request . If you reach $988 goal past the deadline contact to see if it's possible to order more signs, but may not be guaranteed for walk day. 

Top Three Fundraising Teams: as of Wednesday, 10/8, will receive a team banner and lead the walk.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.

$150+ - Raise $150 by 10/14/2023 and receive the official Out of the Darkness Walk t-shirt!   Donations can be made to a team as a whole,  but the T-shirt and other incentives are based only on INDIVIDUAL fundraising.

Is there a registration fee?
No, there is no registration fee to participate.


If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt?
No. The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150


How do I make an offline donation?
To send a donation by check, please complete this form and send it with your check to the address provided.


Is there a fundraising minimum?
No, but we strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt!


Can I register at the Walk? Yes!  You can register in-person at the Walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

Are dogs allowed? Yes! Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the walk.


Parking, route, and other info will be updated as we get closer to Walk Day.
