WALK DAY DETAILS
Directions and Parking Info:
Street Parking: Directions to Street Parking on Ochre Point- use 22 or 26 Orchre Point Newport in GPS
Parking Lot: Directions to Parking Lot behind McKillop Library- enter Lawerence Ave in GPS and look for AFSP- Parking Sign at the parking lot.
Accessible Parking: McAuley Hall 22 Ochre Point Newport. As you enter, go to the left of McAuley Hall. Three spaces are marked next to the building; additional accessible parking is available in the next lot.
Walk Up Registration and Walk Day Activities begin at 9:30 am
Walk-up Registration and donation drop-offs NOTE: Online preregistration DO NOT need to check-in
- Pick-up earned $150 + T-shirts, and Self-Donation between 10/11 and 10/19 LifeSaver bracelet
- Pick up your Honor Beads to show your connection(s) to the cause. Everyone should have Blue Beads for the Ceremony
- AFSP Store for merchandise- T-shirts, bags, bracelets, pins- and more. Cash and credit cards accepted
- Hope activities
- “Leave a Light On.” Decorate a tea light.( Tea lights will be used during the walk ceremony)
- Create a Why I Walk….. Button
- Visit our Community Partner tables
- Bruno Painting will have lawn games and a popcorn machine
- Take team photos
Walk Ceremony: begins at 10:30 am, with the walk immediately following. (Blue Honor Beads and Tea Lights will be used during Ceremony)
We will walk rain or shine: Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. As of 10/17 the weather forecast is Sunny, with a low of 50 and a high of 66.
Bring a water bottle: Water bottle fill stations will be available.
Snacks: Granola bars, popcorn, and goldfish will be available.
Bathrooms: Accessible bathrooms are available inside McAuley Hall.
Dogs: Well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome. Dog water dishes will be available at water bottle filling station.
Walk Route: The walk route is 1.5 miles. You can do 2 loops to make it a 5k.
Most of the route is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. There is one location near the end that has a small hill or a few steps to go down.
If unable to walk the route, a special remembrance activity will take place at the main site during walk time.
Departure: There is no closing ceremony. The walk will end around noon.

FAQs
Is there a registration fee? There is no registration fee or fundraising minimum to participate. We strongly encourage each participant to set a $150 fundraising goal to help support AFSP's work to stop suicide and receive the official walk t-shirt! |
If I raise enough money, will my whole team get a shirt? The event shirts are only given to individuals who raise $150 by 10/19/2024. If your whole team wants a shirt, each member must raise $150. |
How do I make an offline donation? To send a donation by check, please complete the Offline Donation Form and send it with your check to the address provided.

Are dogs allowed? Yes, friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the Southern Rhode Island Walk.
How do I change my team status? If you're already registered and looking to create a new team or join an existing one, simply log into your account and click "change team membership". |
Can I register at the Walk? You can register or donate in-person at the Walk by scanning a QR code. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
